CURIOUS ABOUT THE
HUMAN MIND.

I’m Mariyah Khalid — a recent CBSE Grade 12 graduate with a growing academic interest in psychology, particularly criminal psychology and human behavior.

I’m drawn to the questions that sit behind everyday actions: how thoughts, emotions, personality and life experiences shape the decisions people make. I’m not a professional in the field — I’m a student at the beginning of that journey, learning to observe more carefully, listen more deeply, and think more critically.

My approach is simple: curiosity over conclusions. I enjoy reading, reflecting on different perspectives, and understanding people not through quick judgments, but through context, patterns, and empathy. I’m building the foundation for future studies in psychology with patience and intention.

“Understanding behavior starts with understanding people — not just what they do, but why.”

What I'm curious about

WHAT I'M
CURIOUS ABOUT

Three threads I keep returning to — each a different way of asking the same question: what shapes the way we are?

01 — READING

Reading as inquiry

Books are where my curiosity slows down. I read to explore perspectives different from my own — to sit with ideas, follow an argument, and notice how language and narrative reveal the way people make sense of the world.

02 — PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology & behavior

I’m interested in the basic architecture of human experience — thoughts, emotions, personality, memory, and decision-making. How internal states and external context interact to guide the choices we make.

ThoughtEmotionDecision-makingPersonality
03 — CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY

Criminal Psychology

Particularly, the psychological factors associated with criminal behavior — what can influence a person’s decisions and actions. An academic curiosity: not to sensationalize crime, but to understand its human and behavioral roots with care and responsibility.

ANATOMY OF
BEHAVIOR

A visual metaphor — not a diagnosis, not a claim — just an abstract way of seeing how cognition, emotion, and context braid together into what we do.

Fig. 02 — Abstract behavioral map · 2026ED. NOTE — FOR STUDY, NOT STATEMENT

This diagram is intentionally abstract — it represents areas of interest (cognition, emotion, memory, context, choice), not a clinical model.

Reading note — Vol. 03

Behavior is rarely monocausal. A single decision is often the intersection of personality, learned patterns, immediate context, and longer-term experiences — best approached with nuance, not quick labels.

What I’m learning to ask
01What was the context — not just the act?
02What thought and emotion patterns were present?
03What might be misunderstood from a distance?
A quiet reminder

“Curiosity without compassion becomes judgment. Compassion without curiosity stays vague.”

— A margin note I revisit

04 — JOURNEY
Where I am & where I'm heading
Currently — Academic preparation

IELTS PREPARATION

I am currently preparing for IELTS as part of my academic journey. This preparation is focused on strengthening overall academic English for future studies — with equal attention to all four areas.

◐

Listening

Understanding spoken content, nuance, and context across accents and speeds.

◑

Reading

Engaging closely with academic texts, arguments, and vocabulary.

⬔

Writing

Structuring clear, coherent responses with academic tone.

⬣

Speaking

Expressing ideas fluently and thoughtfully in conversation.

No band scores are displayed because the test has not yet been taken. Progress is shown as areas of focus — not as percentages or scores. Update this section once results are available.

Future direction

WHERE I'M HEADING

I am exploring my future academic path in psychology, with a particular interest in criminal psychology. Rather than rushing to define the final destination, I’m focused on building a strong foundation — through reading, observation, and careful study.

  • Continue developing foundational knowledge in psychology and human behavior
  • Prepare thoroughly for IELTS as a next academic step
  • Explore future undergraduate pathways in psychology when the time is right
  • Stay open — direction will sharpen with study and experience
